James Gorst - Principal

After reading architecture at Cambridge, James worked for Sir Denys Lasdun and John Outram before starting his own practice in 1981. He has lectured at the Royal Academy and has taught at various schools of architecture as well as being an RIBA external examiner.

David Roy - Director

BSc, Dip Arch, M Arch, ARB, RIBA

David studied at The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, he worked for Pierre d’Avione Architects, London and Candelepas Associates, Australia before returning to The Bartlett to complete a Masters in Architectural Practice. He joined James Gorst Architects in 2005.

Bhavina Patel - Part II Architectural Assistant

Bhavina studied architecture at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Before joining James Gorst Architects in 2015 Bhavina worked for Architecture + Environment in New Zealand.

Laura O' Brien - Architect

BSc(Hons), Dip Arch, ARB

Laura studied degree and diploma in architecture at University College Dublin. She has participated in numerous competitions and won the Student Category in the Galway Centre Pier Ideas Competition. Laura participated in "A Space for Learning", a self-build project in Dublin and national exhibition. Before coming to James Gorst Architects, Laura worked at Tham & Videgard Architects in Stockholm, and Seymour Harris Architects in London.

Jerome Flinders - Architect

BSc(Hons), Dip Arch, ARB

Before joining James Gorst Architects in 2016 Jerome worked for SBA on large-scale mixed-use developments in Westminster and Woolwich.  He also spent some time working in India for Studio Mumbai where he worked on large private houses in and around Mumbai as well as an architectural exhibit for the V&A. He has led drawing workshops at CSM and the AA. He attended The Bartlett School of Architecture.

Steve Wilkinson - Architect

BSc(Hons), Dip Arch, ARB

Steve gained his MArch with distinction from the University of Westminster, with his diploma work exhibited at the European Commission. Whilst at University, he formed a small design collective specialising in public work and small scale installations - with clients including the Greater London Authority and the National Trust. Prior to working with James Gorst Architects, Steve specialised in the design of one-off, carbon neutral private houses.

Sarah Graveston - Consultant


Sarah studied Textile Design at the Central School of Art, London and has worked since designing wallpapers and furnishing fabrics for Colefax & Fowler and George Spencer Designs. She teaches an annual project for post-graduated students at the Royal College of art, and has original wallpaper designs in the V&A collection and in the Cooper-Hewitt Museum in New York.
